The Zeitgeist Movement (TZM) is a global grassroots movement. Over the years, several attempts have been made to provide a suitable answer for the need of global online collaboration and communication. The tools in use should connect people from around the world in order to share ideas and motivate and inspire global collective change through educational activism. The solutions used over these past years have shown varying successes. However, several instances proved that there is still a void that generally has not been filled by the currently applied solutions. The report and video presentation in this blog attempt to pinpoint the needs for such an online collaboration and communication tool, analyze what worked and did not work in the past, and then compare these needs with new (open-source) solutions in order to find a suitable alternative or improve what we already have. The goal of this initiative is to put the lip service of TZM into practice. I.e., manage the global resources of TZM (human collaboration) efficiently with the right tools and form a method of communication absent of opinion and prejudice by e.g. using the method of science and nonviolent communication.
I (Kees) would like to share the this proposal with the whole Zeitgeist community. In this proposal I make some suggestions for cultural and structural changes. Please take the time to provide constructive feedback in the Google Document.
I also created a 40 minute presentation video, in case people prefer the information in such a format. However, the presentation might miss some important details which are included in the Google Docs document. Here are the direct links to the footnotes that are highlighted in the presentation:
Here you can see the Discourse pilot. If you want to play around there, contact me through this website and I will send you an invite. After December 31st, 2020, the pilot will undergo destructive tests. Testing is still possible in that time period, but don't expect a stable user experience. The stable release of the Discourse forum also depends on the participation of other people. It's my estimation that it will go live in March 2021.
The survey can be found here and will be closed on February 7th 2021.
On January 16th there was a meeting with a few international core activists of the movement to discuss some initial concerns and questions. The report of this meeting can be found here.
On February the 21st at 18:30 UTC we will discuss the results of the survey and the feedback in the Google Docs document. Add this event to your calendar. This meeting will be held online on Discord. On our Discord server in the category
INTERNATIONAL there are two voice channels named
Europe 1 and
Europe 2. We will use
Europe 1 for this meeting, if that channel is already taken, we will use
